Found normally in barren places in pine forests and heather moors, and in Jotunheimen National Park as high as 1800 meters (5900 feet) above sea level. Lingonberries are considered to be one of the most important wild berries in Norway. There are found in large quantities, are easy to store, and have a variety of household uses. Lingonberries were earlier used in medicine. Delivering mothers drank decoction of lingonberry plants to prevent hemorrhaging, and dried lingonberry flowers were used to treat asthma.
